As we celebrate our final magazine chapters (vol.6 chap.7 & vol.6 chap.8), here we present the supplement series to accompany them: featuring a variety of themes relevant to the current volume of Return Fire, from new transcriptions, to short stories, to the expanded zine version of our open letter last year.

With this we end our winter 2024-2025 cycle of releases, and move into a new phase for the Return Fire project. Our asynchronous, archival and aesthetic magazine is at an end. More than ten years have passed of our publications hitting the streets, with our idiosyncratic focus on providing extra context and ‘future-proofing’ of past and current materials for a mixed audience of Anglophones and those without English as a first language. During the last half of its life, editorial input to its pages (beyond introductions and footnotes) slackened off as we moved into the process of drafting our upcoming book, Instigations. As the editing down of that unwieldy 2020 manuscript has proven more cumbersome than could have been believed, we will now be shedding the magazine format so as to focus exclusively on that task, and once again we thank those involved with commentary and proof-reading across the seven seas (surely also fighting for time amidst other projects, struggles and commitments) for their patience, encouragement and input. Since our statement ‘The Future of ‘Return Fire’’ in 2019, our writings for the projected continuation of our ‘glossary’ series (Leftism to accompany volume 6 and The Society of the Spectacle to accompany the now-aborted volume 7, although readers will detect signs of the latter theme in the materials selected for vol.6 chap.7-8 and their supplements) ended up getting folded into the manuscript of Instigations instead. Updates will follow.
With the decks now cleared of the materials we were compelled to get out from our re-publishing stack, we have also updated various features on this website:
– A new version of our PGP key for encrypted email contact with us has been posted. You will need to use this latest key or we will not be able to read any encrypted message
– The archive of selected texts that have appeared in Return Fire for plain-text web reading has grown larger
– Both the flyers and posters resource pages have been expanded
– A broken link from the Instigations page to our interview with No Path about that book has been fixed
– More publishing from Return Fire has been added to our French-language section
We would additionally like here to sincerely thank all translators who’ve contributed (either specifically for Return Fire magazine or Instigations, or those that posted their work elsewhere and we have distributed), truly some unsung heroines of revolutionary movements.
If you’ve been working on a submission or translation intended for the magazine that hasn’t been finished yet, get in touch about the possibility of us hosting and diffusing it on our website and beyond.
To close this statement, we’d like to welcome the release of imprisoned anarchist comrade Francisco Solar; sadly not out of prison entirely, but out of the punishing isolation regime he has been subjected to for the last 5 years of his life.
Until the last cages are broken.
